About PropertyTaxBC

Who's behind this, why it exists, and how it makes money.

Every year, BC Assessment sends out notices, and every year, almost nobody questions them. Only about 1% of BC homeowners file a complaint about their assessment. That's not because 99% of assessments are exactly right. It's because most people don't know they can appeal for free, don't know how the process works, or figure it's not worth the hassle for a regular house.

I've lived in BC for a decade, and this is one of those systems that affects almost everyone here but that hardly anyone actually understands. I'm a BC resident who thinks a process this common shouldn't be this poorly understood. I noticed a real gap between what homeowners are legally entitled to and what they actually know about. Only about 1% of BC homeowners ever appeal their assessment, and once I understood why, most people just don't know they can, it seemed like a genuinely useful thing to fix with a free tool.

PropertyTaxBC is a free tool. You can check whether your assessment looks worth a closer look, read through exactly how the appeal process works, and if you decide it's worth pursuing, get connected with a BC property tax professional who can help.

A few things worth being upfront about. This site isn't affiliated with BC Assessment, the Property Assessment Review Panel, or the Property Assessment Appeal Board. It's an independent resource. If you choose to connect with a professional through this site, they may pay a referral fee, that's part of how this stays free for you to use. You'll never be charged anything here.
